We operate an appointment system at all surgeries. Appointments can be arranged either personally or by telephone. You may consult any of the doctors but it is a good idea to stay with the same doctor if possible. You can be seen at either the Coppice surgery or Angmerning Medical Centre.
We have three types of appointments
Urgent problems will be seen the same day though it may not be with your usual doctor. If you wish to see a particular doctor it is advisable to book in advance. Patients requesting an urgent appointment may be seen by a triage nurse who will decide whether a nurse or doctor appointment is appropriate.
We aim to see all patients within 20 minutes of their appointment time. However, this may not always be possible (for example if the doctor has to leave the surgery for an emergency). If there is a delay you will be informed by the receptionist and offered the choice of making another appointment.

In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many conditions and you may be seen more quickly.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:00.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.
If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).
It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.
You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.
The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

The practice takes part in a training scheme for medical students. Students spend time at the practice participating in consultations and from time to time will run their own clinic supervised by one of the practice GPs.
Your permission will be requested if you are asked to be involved with a student's training and you may also be video-taped.

In response to an increase in demand for same-day GP appointments, we will be trialling a GP triage system on Fridays commencing the 15th September.
You will be asked questions about your symptoms by Reception in order to signpost you correctly. Please answer as fully as you can.
Our receptionists will either offer you an appointment with one of our Advanced Nurse Practitioners or put you on the triage list for a call-back from one of our GPs. You will be telephoned by the GP the same day and either receive telephone advice or an appointment will be offered to you (at either practice in the morning and Angmering Medical Centre only in the afternoon).
What is Telephone Triage?
Telephone Triage is a method by which a GP contacts a patient and manages their care based on the outcome of that telephone call.

Q. Is this to stop me getting an appointment?
A. Not at all. It is to ensure that the patients who need to be seen on that day are seen by an appropriate health care professional. It's also to help us cope with the ever increasing demand for appointments.
Q. How does it work?
A. Any patient who wants to be seen on the same day, and who fits the criteria for triage, may be assessed this way. The system has been used successfully for several years in many GP surgeries around the country and analysis has shown that the process significantly improves access for patients.
